This is simulation course designed to train cosmetic teams in safe sedation practices for adults.
This course is based on the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) Guideline on Procedural Sedation PG09 and will cover their stated Safe Sedation Competencies.
Course content includes:
1. Pharmacology of emergency and sedative medicines.
2. Goals of sedation & pre-sedation assessment
3. Stratifying risk and level of sedation required for cosmetic procedures
4. Safety equipment & facilities requirements
5. Preparation for sedation
6. Administration & monitoring of sedation
7. Recognition & Management of complications
8. Recovery from sedation
This course is run by Anaesthetists and Critical Care nurses. It will involve both pre-reading, lectures, skills stations and team-based simulation sessions targeted to cosmetic practices. Attendance by the whole cosmetic team is recommended to ensure optimisation of the cosmetic team.
